Before you read the help below, you are strongly recommended to view the demos about how to use Cleeki. Usually that will answer many of your initial questions.
There are two versions of Cleeki: installation version and green version. In normal cases, what you need is the installation version that uses a setup file to do everything for you. The green version is prepared for users that are very cautious about their system security and don't want to install anything into sensitive system locations (such as registry, system folders, etc). You just download the green version and unzip it into your desired folder. And that's it! In the download page, you can find more details about how to install Cleeki.
The following image with green hotspots shows different components of Cleeki. Please move your mouse over any component to read more help information about that component. You are also recommended to try out your Cleeki for a better understanding.
It is very important to understand how Cleeki grabs keywords from your screen. As a good starting point, you are strongly to view the flash demo "Grabbing Keywords" from the demo page.
Cleeki provides sufficient choices for you to grab keywords. You will find these options very helpful for your various purposes and preferences. Basically Cleeki uses the most natural and convenient input device - your mouse - to capture keywords from your screen. There are two mouse operations to capture keywords:
Click: when you click a mouse button, the word beneath your mouse cursor will be captured. Only the exact word separated by non-alphabet characters (such as space, comma, period, etc) will be captured. In the following example, the word "presidency" will be captured.
Drag: when you press and hold a mouse button and drag the mouse, all characters beneath your mouse dragging trajectory will be captured. Please note here "all characters" include every readable characters. In the following example, "George W. Bush" will be captured.
Which (left or right) button is effective depends on your configuration in the "Setting" dialog. By default the right button is used.
After keywords are captured, there are two options that can be applied on the keywords:
Capture & Search : if this option is chosen, a search operation will be immediately carried out in current search tab (for more information about search tab, please refer to Understanding Cleeki GUI).
Capture & Append : if this option is chosen, the captured keywords will be appended to the currently keywords to form the multiple keywords query. No actual search operations will be triggered until you explicitly request so later on.
In order to avoid any interference with regular purposes of mouse clicking (dragging), a keyboard shortcut is required to trigger Cleeki's capturing function. Depending on which shortcut is used, the actual capturing operation is different. The following table summarizes Cleeki's default capturing shortcut. You can customize these shortcuts.
Shortcut
Mouse Right Button Click
Mouse Right Button Drag
CTRL
Directly take the word beneath current cursor position as current keyword, and search it immediately in current category
Take the words that overlap with the region covered by the mouse drag as current keywords, and search the keywords immediately in current category
SHIFT
Add the word beneath current cursor position to current keyword list, and wait until an explicit search request is received (e.g., when the user presses a “search” button)
Append the words that overlap with the region covered by the mouse drag to current keyword list, and wait until an explicit search request is received (e.g., when the user presses a “search” button)
As introduced above in "Grabbing Keywords", basically there are two ways to submit search request: submitting immediately after the keywords are captured from your screen (ALT+Mouse by default), or submitting when you explicitly request so (e.g., pushing a "search" button). How the search request will be submitted depends on current context of Cleeki. Specifically the following table summarizes the submitting behaviors. Please refer to "Understanding Cleeki GUI" and you are encouraged to try out your Cleeki for better understanding.
Your Operation
Search Behavior
Use "Capture & Search" to capture keywords
Search in currently tab using current keywords.
Use "Capture & Append" to capture keywords
No search will be triggered unless your explicit request later (see below).
Click on an active tab (category)
No search will be triggered, assuming current keywords have been searched since the tab is active
Click on an inactive tab (category)
The inactive tab becomes active, and search in that tab
Click on the "Summary" button
Search in current active tab
Click on the "Search" button
Search using the default search engine in your default web browser.. Current Cleeki uses Google as the default search engine.
Choose an item from the tab menu
Make the corresponding tab active, and search in that tab
Press "Enter" key when the keyword editbox owns the input focus
The same as "Click on the Summary button"
Please note when a search request is triggered for the "Summary" tab (it will always be the first tab in the tab list), multiple search requests will be submitted simultaneously. Current Cleeki's summary page includes Dictionary and Wikipedia results.
This section introduces how to understand Cleeki's search results.
Cleeki handles search results in two ways:
When you submit your search request using the methods introduced in "Submitting Search", the results will directly return to your Cleeki window. The only exception is by clicking on the "Search" button, which will launch your default web browser to search. The search results presented in Cleeki window might have been adapted in order to provide more friendly and efficient display.
If you click on the "Search" button in Cleeki, or you click on any link shown in Cleeki window, the search (or link) will be opened in your default web browser. If the browser has not been launched, Cleeki will first launch it. If the browser has already been launched, Cleeki will open a new window (such as Internet Explorer 6) or new tab (such as Mozilla Firefox) for the search (link).
If you click on any link shown in Cleeki window and want the link to be opened within Cleeki window, use CTRL+click. This will keep all links within the Cleeki window. In this case, all of the continuous pages will NOT be adapted. Therefore if you prefer this option, you are recommended to adjust the size of your Cleeki to ensure it is large enough to display the page in a comfortable way.
